Reaching equivalence from English to Arabic in audiovisual translation presents several challenges for translators due to the complex understanding of linguistic, cultural, and technical factors. This research aims to analyze translation strategies in AVT, focusing on achieving equivalence and cross-cultural communication in English-Arabic film “Disenchantment” as a case study produced by Matt Groening, relying on methods proposed by Nida for achieving equivalence. We then depend specifically on the analytical theory of translation, which focuses on examining the linguistic and structural elements of both the source and target texts. The idea of the linguistic register in this text can be determined by emphasizing the importance and indispensability of the translator’s cultural understanding. The translator must be familiar with linguistic and cultural factors to ensure equality in audiovisual translation, with an emphasis on cross-cultural exchange and accurate understanding of contextItem Challenges of subtitling Algerian Dialect case study analysis of the song ya hessra 3lik ya denya by KAMEL MESSAOUADI(Université Mouloud Mammeri, 2023) Fellah Damia; Chekaoui SoniaThis thesis undertakes a meticulous examination of the intricate field of Audiovisual Translation, with a specific emphasis on the subtitling of Algerian folk poetry titled "YaHessra 3lik YaDenya.". Among all types of problems discussed in translation we have selected poetry translation which is considered as the most complicated one. It encounters many difficulties, the most important of which is the question of possibility or impossibility of translating poetry so that some views considered it as being untranslatable. The aim of our research is to support the opposite view by translating the poem of Al-Mutanabbi and analyzing it by adopting the Interpretative theory of translation. The aim of the present study is to show the difficulties we faced in the process of poetry translation between rendering the meaning or the form of the source poem in the target one and how we overcome them. We aimed to investigate the Interpretative Theory of Translation since our work is based on rendering the meaning rather than the form.Item Conception du guide du voyageurs en Tamazight au niveau de l'aéroport(Université Mouloud Mammeri, 2023) Chioukh Saida; Semmar BoudiafAṭas n yemdanen ttmeslayen tutlayt n tyemmat, llan gar-asen wid yettmeslayen tutlayin tibraniyin am tfransist, tanglizit ...atg, maca llan kra mačči d ay-a, tutlayt akken ad tidir, yesefk ad tili deg yal amkan, ad taɣ adeg ar tiyaḍ snen kan yiwet n tutlayt wigi ttmagaren-d ugar n yiɛwiqen deg waṭas n yiḥricen gar-asen mi ara inigen, ɣef waya nefren ad nexdem tasuqilt n umawal n unafag seg tefransist ɣer teqbaylit. Translation, being a delicate and intricate task within the realm of language studies, involves a multitude of complex issues. The complexity further intensifies when translating from English to Arabic, necessitating a translator's profound linguistic knowledge to navigate both the surface and underlying intricacies of language. Translating also entails the transfer and transformation of various distinctive elements from one language to another. Given that Arabic and English originate from different and distant linguistic backgrounds, translating between the two scripts presents numerous difficulties in areas such as vocabulary, grammar, phonetics, style, and usage. This paper specifically focuses on the challenges associated with translating fictional expressions into Arabic, proposing practical and acceptable approaches to overcome these obstacles based on linguistic considerations, contextual factors, cultural aspects, and more. The intention is to make this research work more accessible to Arabic readers. Item Difficultés rencontrées lors de la traduction des actes de cadi (Actes anciens) 1904-1970 de l'arabe vers le français (10) actes(ummto, 2016-09) LOUANCHI, KarimaItem Difficulties and Strategies of Subtitling Historical Documentary Case Study :" الجزائر تاريخ في الدرامية السنوات” Directed by Ayman Mrouweh(Université Mouloud Mammeri, 2023) Nait Ali Katia; Khaber SaraThe present research tackles the difficulties and strategies of subtitling Historical Documentary from Arabic to English revealed in"السنوات الدامية في تاريخ الجزائر" directed by AymanMrouweh in 1991. Through the use of functional theory suggested by Nord ( 2009), the translation strategies of Molina &Albir (2002), besides, subtitling strategies proposed by HenrikGottlieb (1992) in addition to the constraints of subtitling proposed by Lucien Marleau(1982) and the help of Aegisub software, we have attempted to emphasize on theclarity and effective communication of meaning and preserves historical accuracy of facts end events. In the process of subtitling when using the former program, we deduce that the translator confronts several constraints that seek modifications required for instance managing character limits and timing. In light of our analysis, we have observed that some expressions and terms whensubtitling historical documentaries have to be kept to broaden their accessibility, reacha wider audience, help bridge language gaps, and foster a more global appreciation ofhistorical narratives. We deduce also that we must keep subtitles concise to avoidovercrowding the screen and maintain viewer engagement. This research will allowviewers from different linguistic backgrounds to appreciate the historical informationpresented in the documentary. We recommend the contribution with historians, scholars, and institutions that specialize in the relevant historical field.Item Difficulties in translating ’l fiʽl ’lmudāriʽ ( الفعل المضارع ) from Arabic into English Analytical and critical study of the translation of ’lbaqara by M.A.S Abdel Haleem(ummto, 2016-09) BENYETTOU, Samia; BENBARA, HassibaOur dissertation, whose problematics discusses the difficulties encountered in translating ’lfi‛l ’lmudāri‛ from Arabic to English in sŭrat ’lbaqara, aims to cover some of the difficulties met by the translators while translating ’lfi‛l ’lmudāri‛ and provide some possible solutions which might be useful in overcoming these difficulties after applying the dynamic equivalence approach of Nida and Taber which cares more about conveying the meaning implied in the ST and producing the same expressive and imperative effects in the TT. We will try through our dissertation, which is divided into two chapters (theoretical and practical), to confirm the hypotheses that are all about the specific features of the holy Qur’an, the differences which exist between Arabic and English namely the ones related to the uses and forms of the present tense and the application of Nida and Taber’s dynamic equivalence approach to the translation of ’lfi‛l ’lmudāri‛ from Arabic to English in the holy Qur’an. The conclusions we came to after conducting this research proved that the Qur’an as well as English and Arabic have some particular features which make them differ from one another; Nida and Taber’s dynamic equivalence approach seems to be the most appropriate approach for such kind of translations, namely when dealing with the present tense.Item Difficulties of Subtitling an Algerian Dialect into English language Case study:Soltan Achour 10 comedy(ummto, 2018-12) OUBAKOUK, Kahina; TIGROUDJA, ChafiaThis work deals with the difficulties encountered in subtitling the Algerian dialect, used in comedy of Soltan Achour 10, into English language .So, we have opted for subtitling using the interpretative theory, “Equivalence and Borrowing” (Vinay & Darbelnet procedures of translation), and Agiesub software in order to achieve the goal of this study. From this research we first deduce that the interpretative theory is able to render the meaning but it cannot keep the original humoristic effect. then in the process of subtitling when using the previous software, we also deduce that the translator encounters several constraints that demand modifications related for example to the number of characters, time … The current research brings another study to the audiovisual field; it may helps in enriching this domain and pushes other translators to be interested by such studies in order to improve this domain that serves to the exportation of the local cinematographic production. Considering our analysis, we have noticed that subtitles must have a complete meaning in a concise writing, and that the style used in subtitles must suits perfectly to the original script. As we deduced that some terms and expression proper to the Algerian society have to be kept the same because it pushes the target audience to learn more about the Algerian traditions, and the translators should not exaggerate with the use of cultural equivalents and adaptations because many changes in the cultural elements of original script occurred. Finally while subtitling; the translator must take into consideration the role of the audience by listening to their needs.Item Difficulties of Subtitling Contemporary Poetry إلياذة الجزائر as a Case Study(ummto, 2018) HADIOUCHE, Kahina; BOUKEMCHE, BahiaPoetry translation is one of the most challenging types of translation. when dealing with poetry, the translator may face several difficulties. On one hand, he may encounter obstacles related to the poem’s form containing mainly lineation, rhyme, rhythm and many other aspects that constitute the aesthetic side of the poem. On the other hand, the obstacles related to the poem’s content that consists of several linguistic elements such as the syntactical, semantic, and rhetorical ones, in addition to the extra linguistic cultural references. This work is an attempt to deal with the linguistic and cultural difficulties encountered while translating a poem from Arabic to English. In our study we have selected a collection of approaches and strategies that will be applied in the translation as well as the subtitling of the Arabic Poem إلياذة الجزائر . Hence, our translation will be carried out under the light of the seven strategies of poetry translation proposed by André LEFEVERE since they help the translator to choose the suitable poetic form. Besides, we have relied on Peter NEWMARK and Ritva LEPPIHALME’s works to tackle the linguistic obstacles, in addition to Jan PEDERSON’s strategies that are likely to be adopted in dealing with the cultural references. As for subtitling إلياذة الجزائر , we thought it appropriate to opt for the strategies of subtitling proposed by Henrik GOTTLIEB as they are instrumental in dealing with subtitling constraints.
